Day nine.
Kind of sluggish and tired today, more food fantasies — especially pastries. Sugar and bread, sugar and bread… Ugh. What is wrong with me? Why did this only hit yesterday? I think it’s 99% mental. I really do love food and I just miss the flavors and textures of some of my favorites. (You’ll notice below I have yet to give up on coffee for reals, though you’ll also note I didn’t have any yesterday.)
Scored huge shopping at Berkeley Bowl West today. Pics tomorrow, but here’s the total: two bags of clearance apples ($1.98), three loose bananas ($.90), broccoli ($1.29), five pound bag of carrots ($1.49), and three pounds strawberries ($4.17 total). I still have some kale, tomatoes, cukes, pears, romaine, spinach and parsley to use up. I just need to be more thoughtful in my upcoming recipes. (Also, at the advice of Melanie Lewis, I am considering saving the tomatoes for the raw snacks I am usually eating between juices, as they may be the nastiest culprit in day #2’s nasty juice.)
Breakfast: Fuji apple ($.60) because I didn’t have a banana or fresh berries for a drink.
Lunch drink: banana ($.30) + six strawberries ($.40!) + orange juice (from a carton), over ice. So awesome! The OJ tang makes it a whole different drink. I’m looking forward to having this one again tomorrow morning for breakfast.
Various snacks: coffee with soy milk (again, yeah) and 1.5 tablespoons peanut butter
Evening drink: leftovers from day #7 + the juice from one granny smith apple ($.60), diluted. Not bad. Trying to choke down all of it if I can…
I’m wondering if I’m getting hungry because I’m not eating earlier in the day? I will try to have breakfast early tomorrow. I’m working the Census 3pm-9pm so I’ll also have a filling lunch before I go — it’s nearby, though, so I might be able to come home for a snack.
